Your Name Means Something!

Article By XGN Mr Pretzels

Your name means something, whether it’s something special to you that touches you emotionally, or appeals to your personal senses. In XGN your name matters, it identifies you, and making that step to change your name to include XGN in it is a huge step in your dedication. When making this step, members think hard and even ask other members what they change their name to. For a lot of members, including myself, their name has some type of meaning behind it. Sometimes it extends to simple as, ‘I thought it sounded cool’, all the way to, ‘It was the name of my dog when I was a kid’. They all have meanings, whether hidden or visible, and they all matter.

I sat down with XGN members who have changed their name and those who haven’t and asked them to talk to me about what their name means to them. Here are the words I received.

I sat down with XGN Khaleesi, I found this interview to be very touching.
Q – What does the name XGN Khaleesi have that is name a symbolic or some type of emotional meaning?
A – “It was more emotional. Do you remember XGN Tsar? Due to him passing away, he was my best friend and they always had a joke between us with Game of Thrones. We had a joke that I was his Khaleesi, I defended him and was removed from a squad because of this, and I wanted to honor him in this way by changing my name to this.”

Q – Do you think people recognize you or remember you by your name?
A – “In TH people do, not other divisions really, maybe by the Main XGN Server.”

Q – Do people recognize you by name and not by XGN Status?
A – “That’s hard to determine peoples recognition, but i’m happy that people don’t recognize me because I’m the Art Director.”

Q – Do you want your name to be remembered not because of what you’ve done, but by good intentions?
A – “I want to be remembered by my good intentions, and not by my department work.”

Q – What kind of vibes do you get when you join a party and people see ‘XGN Khaleesi joined the party’?
A – “Khaleesi Joined the party, OMGGGG”

Q – Does that give you the feeling of Family in XGN?
A – “Most definitely, but it’s much more than that.”

Q – Do you plan on changing your name ever?
A – “Only when I earn my 7, otherwise no, its symbolic to me and reminds me what Tsar stood for.”

Next I sat down with XGN LilJoshie, he is such a kind soul, and I enjoyed this interview.
Q – Does your name have a symbolic meaning or some type of emotional meaning?
A – “To me not really, it’s just kind of the name that stuck with me since elementary school, because my friends use to call me Joshie and my mom would call me LilJoshie, so it stuck.”

Q – People do you think recognize you or remember you by your name?
A – “No, there’s never a point in time where people are like, “Oh it’s lil joshie’, cause its always just been me and I, but I kind of keep to myself most of the time.”

Q – Do people recognize you by name and not by XGN Status?
A – “This one is difficult because I was in SIVA DR, and I was the only Major left there so the squad failed, so I really haven’t gotten to know new people, so I really haven’t really heard my name up there, but I have heard my name up there instead of rank.”

Q – Do you want your name to be remembered not because of what you’ve done but by good intentions?
A – “This is an interesting question, because knowing that SIVA was my fourth failed squad, but I don’t think people will remember me because of my past, but because of my attitude and how I approach things.”

Q – What kind of vibes do you get when you join a party and people see ‘XGN LilJoshie joined the party’
A – “It’s sort of a mix, certain parties and people, with my best friend I get, “It’s my little gay brother!” Verses my XGN parties where it really just depends on my mood and the people i’m with.”

Q – Does that give you the feeling of Family in XGN?
A – “Another interesting question, sometimes, I feel like in certain situations it likes ‘Oh yeah, this is my family’ but because of all of my previous history, I get that like, family of sixteen, and it just seems like they have their own little groups, and I feel like I fall for that too because I associate with the people I like in XGN, which is why I like party hopping because then you keep up with everyone, but I do get that family feel, but it’s difficult to make it feel like we are when we are all so distant.”

Q – Do you plan on changing your name ever?
A – “I don’t think Ill ever change my gamertag. XGN LilJoshie is here to stay.”

I sat down next with my Colonel over in TH, XGN Kills, whos interview I found to be thoughtful and kind.
Q – Does your name have a symbolic meaning or some type of emotional meaning?
A – “‘Oof’, that’s a nice question, it was inspired by one of the founders in TH, to be more specific I mostly wanted to have the K in my name, mainly because I looked up to this found who was the General at the time, XGN Kiwis 7, I wanted a reflection of this and I looked up to him a lot, and I want to have a K in my name somewhere, I thought about making it Strawberry, So the true meaning behind ‘kills’ is how I got recruited into XGN, I did a 1v1, If my friend, who didn’t want me to join, won I didn’t have to join, if I lost, I had to join, he lost, so I joined.”

Q – People do you think recognize you or remember you by your name?
A – “I honestly don’t think everyone in XGN knows ‘XGN Kills’, but I would say people in THE, my home division, recognize me.”

Q – Do people recognize you by name and not by XGN Status?
A – “It’s kind of a two-sided thing, if one of my members was in a party, I would think that people have said, ‘Hey that’s my Colonel Kills’. But I’ve only seen that in my own squad, when I’ve joined parties in my squad I would general get the feeling that people would see me as their friend instead of their Colonel. I don’t want to be seen as that person who is a higher rank and requires respect, you come to XGN to make friends.”

Q – Do you want your name to be remembered not because of what you’ve done but by good intentions?
A – “I’m not afraid of telling people of what I’ve done in the past, and that’s just on my reputation. People know I will do anything for my squad, and people also seem know that I’ve had a history of discipline. I hope people think ‘Kills cared, and was a great man’, not every single leader has been the best leader and best member they could have been.”

Q – What kind of vibes do you get when you join a party and people see ‘XGN Kills joined the party’
A – “Overall, most of the time I join parties I get the chill type of vibe, so I usually get chill vibes, and I enjoy that, and I try to avoid people who dislike me to try and keep from creating bad vibes.”

Q – Does that give you the feeling of Family in XGN?
A – “Of course! Everyone here, everyone in this community is my family, and with those vibes you know you are accepted and are family, and overall, XGN is my family.”

Q – Do you plan on changing your name ever?
A – “No, well, actually yes, I would only change it under one circumstance, and that would be if I earned me ‘7’.”

Next I interviewed a person by the name of ‘Spirit Of XGN’, I thought at first this was going to be long, but it was over quite quick.
Q – Does your name have a symbolic meaning or some type of emotional meaning?
A – “I want it to symbolize what I want it to be and who I am, and I want to be the spirit of XGN that picks everyone and says ‘Keep going’”

Q – People do you think recognize you or remember you by your name?
A – “I would like to think so. I plan on making a difference, So i hope it is remembered.”

Q – Do people recognize you by name and not by XGN Status?
A – “No, people recognize me by my name, not my rank, I was General and stepped down to relax, but a lot of people of recognize me by my name and who I am.”

Q – Do you want your name to be remembered not because of what you’ve done but by good intentions?
A – “I would like to be remembered by the work I’ve done in XGN, Id like to be remembered by what I did to benefit XGN, but also by the Person who was there and helped out.”

Q – What kind of vibes do you get when you join a party and people see ‘Spirit of XGN joined the party’
A – “It depends on the party I’m hoping in with, whether it be my old squad mates, or my friends.”

Q – Does that give you the feeling of Family in XGN?
A – “Yeah, I definitely feel like I’m part of a family, nor do I ever feel like were not family. I’ve always felt the same way.”

Q – Do you plan on changing your name ever?
A – “In the future, yes, I feel like when you get a name, you can only be use that for a while, I’ve gone through three XGN names so far, and I’ve been in less than a year.”

For my final interview I sat down with the Co-Div leader of TH, XGN Mag 7, I chose different questions for him due to his rank. Hoping to give the perspective from a higher ranking member.

Q – What does Mag stand for?
A – “Mag is short for magnificent, went I got to MSG that was what I wanted, whenever i ranked up I was the best of my ranks, I did 20 train ins my first week as an MSG and I was considered to be one of the best LTs at the time.”

Q – What kind of vibe do you give off when you join parties?
A – “I usually randomly join parties, and the vibe I give out is usually ‘Oh i’m only in trouble’, but if you are, i will tell you beforehand.”

Q – What kind of vibes do you wish to get out of it?
A – “No um, to be honest, it would be a more of a ‘Oh itssss magggg what’s up man’.”

Q – Do you think people respect you more and listen to what you have to say because of this?
A – “This is just another XGN member who is my friend, who is me to make people respect me, I don’t need to be respected, I want to respect everyone down to CPLs, In theory, I’m going to treat a garbage man with the same amount of respect as I would meeting the president.”

Q – Do people think they need to be careful what to say when you are around and in the party
A – “Yes, cause I mean, XGN is professional at times, but were not a company, we’re a family, if we don’t act this way towards each other were not really family, when I’m being serious I let them know, there are times when we are being professional, but we are still and always are a family.”

Q – Do you think people pay more attention to what you as DIV staff have to say versus a, lets say a SGT in discord chat?
A – “To be honest, in that scenario, for people to take that Sergeant serious too, a lot of people look at lower ranks as just numbers, and they are not being treated like people, I read what the SGTs and enlisted ranks have to say, I think the only time to be serious with div staff is when its a serious matter, otherwise, what that SGT has to say is important.”

Q – Having 7 in your name is a very honorable, you have to take a test for it, very hard to earn. Do people see that Seven and think, this is an important person?
A – “At first people said I need to be respected, and they realize my rank and persona had become serious, and I get more respect from higher ups then lower ranks because they are not educated enough to know what that means.”

Q – You said that lower ranks are not educated enough to understand the 7 and what it means? Do you think that should be something implemented in trainings or workshops?
A – “I don’t think they should be implemented in training, in workshops, yes. LDPs too, teach LTs and CPTs to help motivate them to want to achieve that.”

Q – Do you plan on changing your name ever?
A – “To be honest no, I don’t plan on moving on from Mag, it’s so mentally attached and keeps me going, and its unique, it makes me magnificent, and when people ask why, I can show them why.”

I figured I would finish this off with discussing my own name, XGN Mr Pretzels. Some people think I really enjoy the salted snack known as Pretzels. In all reality, there is no ‘hidden meaning’ to my name. I do enjoy the salted snack and eat it on occasion. I guess you could say, that there is somewhat of a hidden meaning, I choose this name because its memorable. With over 5000 active members in our clan, for a name to stand out I think is important. You don’t come across names like mine, which is why I think its special and is memorable.

I thank all the members who partook in the interviews, for their time, and for answering the questions I asked. Thank you!
