Spyro the Dragon, it’s a name we haven’t heard in some time outside of Skylanders, but it is still a name we hold dear in our gaming hearts. I personally spent countless hours of my childhood playing this masterpiece of a game series. Thinking of taking a trip back in time to enjoy them once again? Don’t ramble through that dusty basement looking for your PS1, because on September 21, 2018 the Spyro Trilogy will be returning to PS4 and Xbox One in the long awaited remaster.
What are the changes you ask? Much like the Crash Bandicoot remaster, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy will be focusing on visual improvements most and keeping those old childhood memories intact by not changing the base story line. Yes these are still the same games you played the heck out of on PS1. There have been mentions of an updated control system for smoother game play but that’s just adapting to the growth of technology over the 20 year period from when the game was first released.
The game includes the original 3 in the series. Spyro the Dragon, Ripto’s Rage!, and my personal favorite, Year of the Dragon. This collection will be released at an amazing price of $39.99. A $40 trip to nostalgia-land, count me in! Pre-order has already begun and many have joined the hype train for this amazing remaster. Unfortunately there is no game play to judge as of now. The only thing we have to go on is our memories, the launch trailer, and select images that Toys for Bob (Manufacturer) has given us.
Overall this seems like a great title at a great price. $40 for 3 games that I grew up on, remastered in full HD. My money is practically leaping out of my wallet already. No word yet on if this game will be ported to the Nintendo switch but it is in discussion. Many people are upset that a past Sony exclusive title is making it’s way to Xbox but times are changing for gaming, and so are the gamers. We’ve all had amazing memories with this game and spread out to many different consoles, it’s only right we all get to experience them the way we did 20 years ago. No matter what you choose to play it on.
My thoughts? I love that they want to keep everything the same. The story was great then and it will be great to relive again with revamped graphics. I’m sold on this game already. I can’t wait to get back into the series and snag all those collectibles all over again. Sheep beware, on the 21st of September I’ll be back at it again with everyone’s favorite Dragon.
