Lovers of the Mario World and its multiple game franchise will love the return of a classic Mario Party Series. The main difference besides the obvious release gap is the console on which you can play Super Mario Party. Super Mario Party was released on the Nintendo Switch, October 5th, 2018, and within its first month became one of the biggest game releases to come out of Nintendo.
The greatest thing about Super Mario Party being released on the Nintendo Switch, is that fact that you can play with a friend using one controller per person. As you can imagine, this would be great for long car rides for you or if you have any children they could play together without fighting over who gets to play! Amongst many great things, you can also for the first time play online with friends and family with 80 mini games built into game itself. One other fantastic feature provided with the release on the Nintendo Switch is that you can now play certain games using the motion sensor capabilities! The greatest impact that this has for gamers and fans alike is the racing games. Now while you can use the motion sensor capabilities, you can in fact go old school and use the toggles as well and get more of a classic approach and feel to the in game play!
While the boards may seem a bit small and the variance of boards may be lacking, a lot can be said for the mini games which account for many hours of happy, fun-filled gameplay. With this installment in the Mario Party Franchise, Super Mario Party has included a few new playable characters to the roster. While you will see returning members such as Mario, Yoshi, and Donkey Kong you will also see Diddy Kong, Monty Mole, Goomba, Pom Pom and Bowser Jr. While it is debatable that these characters have been in other Mario Party games, they weren’t anything as playable as they are in this day in age as a few were simple NPC story back fillers or miniscule players in the over game play with little to no action in the series.
To many the game since its release has lived up to its predecessors with what you can do, and has proven itself and its namesake company to be what it was intended to be, family friendly. If you don’t think so when given the chance, I would personally say try it for yourself. Super Mario Party was nominated for “Best Family Game”, at both The Game Awards 2018 and Gamescom and unfortunately only received the Gamescom award. While that may seem like a downer, Nintendo doesn’t think so as the game surpassed their own release expectations!
