Halo’s franchise was revived this year at E3, and it’s hit the internet like a wildfire. Unfortunately not much information has surfaced or been given from Microsoft. A short reveal trailer and a slice of information is all we’ve got on our plate right now. That hasn’t stopped long time halo fans from getting increasingly hype for an upcoming return to roots. Especially after Halo 5 was met with a mediocre fan reception.
The history of Halo hasn’t been completely glorious, some would even say that one of the series that made gaming what it is today has fallen off. The original Halo trilogy was innovative, and many fans would argue they were the pinnacle of the series and a cornerstone for what pro gaming would become. 343 Industries had big shoes to fill when Bungie left the Halo project, some Halo fans think they didn’t live up to the legacy Bungie left.
The comparisons with Bungie’s original trilogy are warranted and in a lot of fans minds recent additions to the franchise aren’t living up to the old game. Fans were especially hard on Halo 5. Complaints came from a multitude of directions, from a lackluster story to AI glitches. A popular argument is that micro-transactions made multiplayer game play unfair.
But 343 seems set to bring some closure to long time fans of the series. To begin it appears that Microsoft has created a new engine called the Slipspace just for Infinite, this is incredibly impressive since apparently the technology to make the game they envision isn’t around yet. They’ve also revamped the art style with director Nicolas “Sparth” Bouvier, textures and colors look similar to the older titles and Master Chief’s armor has a simpler sleeker design.
The reveal trailer shows us some crisp textures as it shows off the power of the Slipspace. If we’re to believe to end of the reveal trailer Infinite will be bringing the fight back to the Halo rings. That should trigger your nostalgia. This looks to be 343 Industries most ambitious take on Halo yet and I can’t wait to see if they make Bungie fans proud.
