Not long on the heels of the recently released Call of Duty: World War 2, we receive news of the next title to come in the Call of Duty series, more so the Black Ops series.
Back in February Eurogamer reported that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 would be released this year. Citing a tweet from “industry insider” @Marcus_Sellars, “COD 2018 is Black Ops 4 and is coming to PS4/Xbox/PC/Switch. It is set in the modern times and is boots on the ground. The Switch version will support DLC, HD Rumble and motion controls. The Switch version is also being ported by a company which is familar with COD games.”
Exactly one month later in March, it was confirmed by Treyarch, the brains behind the Black Ops Series, that we will see Black Ops 4 in October, even giving us a little teaser trailer. I don’t know about y’all, but Let.The.Countdown.Begin because I am super stoked about this since I am a huge Black Ops fan.
We will see Black Ops 4 release worldwide for Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 12th, 2018. Normally we see our Call of Duty titles release in early November, but many are speculating that the early release is due in part to the scheduled release of 2K’s Red Dead Redemption 2 on October 26th.
What else do we know so far of Black Ops 4? Recently rumors have started flying that the newest CoD title will not have a solo campaign mode at all, but will instead focus on multiplayer. It’s being said that we will see expanded Zombies along with a possible Battle Royal mode. I know for me that isn’t something I would like to hear, but like I said these are rumors and so far nothing has been confirmed on this one.
The only thing I can see solid is from Call of Duty and Treyarch itself where we will see a Community Reveal on May 17th, 2018, and more information (we hope) at E3 in June.
All I’m saying is these guys better come clean because I don’t know how much longer I can wait for this news. Not only about Black Ops 4, but to hopefully have confirmation on the rumor that we will be seeing Modern Warfare 2: Remastered release this year as well.
What do you guys think? Do you think we will see a Call of Duty title with no campaign? Do you think a 4th Black Ops is overkill on the series? Sound off in the comments and let me know!
