Prosperity, liberty, and democracy. With these three ideals, Arrowhead Studios knew what was needed. Helldivers 2 released February 8th, 2024 and in the first month alone commanded 459 thousand Helldivers, ready to fight for Super Earth; spreading these three ideals around in the name of justice.
Helldivers 2 takes place a century after Super Earth’s victory against the Terminids, Automatons, and Illuminate. Helldivers 2 is a Galaxy War that uses supply lines to help fellow Helldivers liberate planets from the control of the Terminids and Automations. These supply lines rely on planets under Super Earth’s control. These planets give Helldivers the ability to use new stratagems. Stratagems range from different support weapons, air support, sentry guns, shield generators, and resupplies. Helldivers 2 runs dozens of community driven events and causes ranging from the infamous Joel to the Battle of The Creek.
On release, Super Earth was under attack by both Terminids and Automatons. Helldivers fought day and night to hold off the onslaught that besieged them on both sides. During this Galaxy War, it was a massive tug of war with the Terminids. With Super Earth’s back turned to the Automatons, they launched a surprise invasion on many Super Earth controlled planets, one of those planets being Malevelon Creek; said by many Helldivers to be the hardest and bloodiest battles fought during this war against them. The fight for this planet started on February 8th to the 28th after a hard three weeks of fighting the planet was lost. This was known as the First Battle of Malevelon Creek. During the first battle, battle cries made by the community came forth to drive recruitment to fight on The Creek. The most popular slogan for the cause is “Fight for the Creek”. The Second Battle of Malevelon Creek started on February 28th to April 1st and, after a hard fought siege of the planet for 31 days, the planet was finally liberated. During the second battle an infamous class of Helldivers arose; a term that labeled those who fought on the Creek. They became known as the “Creekers.”
Now who is the infamous Joel? Joel is a developer and Game Master for Arrowhead Studios. His sole job is controlling the Galaxy War, whether it be reinforcing the Terminids, Automatons, or Helldivers. Think of Joel as a Dungeon Master from Dungeon & Dragons. The community found out about Joel on February 28th. Once they revealed X, Reddit, Tiktok, and YouTube went crazy with making loads of memes, player made lore videos, and more.
With the galactic war raging every day, the brave Helldivers of Super Earth endlessly fight for planetary liberation in the name of democracy. The Terminids and Automatons continue to push for a foothold on Super Earth controlled planets, but their presence on the battlefield consistently prohibits invasion; pushing the enemies of Super Earth back. With all new threats of invasion ever present on the horizon, Super Earth needs its citizens more than ever to prove they have what it takes to be free. Join the Helldivers.
