We first heard word from Nintendo on March 17th, 2015 that a new console would be coming our way, called the NX. Today October 20th, 2016 Nintendo revealed the newest console in their history the NX, now titled Nintendo Switch. The first Official Trailer was released for Nintendo Switch this morning by Nintendo, and we’ve got to say…holy crap! (Use any words you want, but remember this is a family place.)
From first look we see a man and his console, the Nintendo Switch just hanging out in its dock, looking similar to the traditional set up like most gaming consoles, then comes the switch. Removing the detachable Joy-Con controllers from the grip accessory and attaching them to the Switch in it’s dock, it becomes a powerful handheld system comparing to the video pad of a Wii U. If that wasn’t enough for you, the gamer can play with one Joy-Con controller in each hand, using the Switch display on a table, and then become two player with each gamer using a Joy-Con. Not used to Joy-Con controllers, and prefer the traditional feel of a controller? No fear, because the gamer can simply use the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
For these reasons so far it is why President and COO for Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime states, “It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.” Saying that developers can design their games supporting a variety of play styles, with the gamer being able to choose a style of game that fits them. Along with the initial Press Release of Nintendo Switch, Nintendo of America tweeted this image today to give credit to their many partners for this new console.
With these features alone the Nintendo Switch will revolutionize the way we see console, and handheld gaming. Not just that but it will change the face of multiplayer, as gamers can use the Nintendo Switch in it’s portable configuration and come together for face-to-face multiplayer as opposed to the traditional online multiplayer. The ending moments of the official trailer for Nintendo Switch, even simulates a UMG style event utilizing the Nintendo Switch as their console.
My mind alone is blown, it looks like Nintendo Switch will be the best of both worlds between handheld, and standard console. Now we begin our countdown as the console will be available in March of 2017. As in typical reveal fashion, we do receive the word that we will have to wait for full game demos, exact launch date, pricing, and other specifics. Since it is slated for a March release, and we already know that the next E3 Expo isn’t until June 2017, we can only assume sometime between January or February.
Are you ready for this console? Any gamers having strayed away from the Nintendo brand, does this make you want to come crawling back, begging for forgiveness of your betrayal, and loving Xbox or PlayStation all these years? Drop a comment & let us know what you think!
